Ms. Fallen Angeles L.A. LeatherWoman '97

L.A.’s first Ms. L.A. Leather contest, titled ‘Ms.Fallen Angeles Leather ‘97’. The Premier Contest came together in a flawless production at the Faultline on January 11th (A meet & greet Beer Bust was held the night before). The event was truly history in the making with LeatherAti Celebs. arriving from all over the country. We, ROSS & ross drove down from our new digs in San Francisco to support and cover the event for LeatherWeb and the B.A.R. (Bay Area Reporter) in Mr. Marcus’ absence.

When we arrived about 19:30 hours it was immediately a homecoming . First and foremost we fell into the arms of Jill Carter, the reigning International Ms. Leather and her wife of 23 years, VIola Johnson (Pantheon of Leather and National Leather Association Woman of the Year 1995) . Jill and VI had moved to Pennsylvania last year from Oklahoma and it was a special thrill to be able to introduce them to my new ‘one and only’ boi rodtney.

The first thing I had to ask Ms. Carter was the status of bonding with Queen Cougar of San Francisco. Answer: We’re married. And she holds out her finger to display the new ring. So, I guess you would call this perhaps a ‘Polyamary’ relationship. I also asked Jill how does it feel to be in the forefront as titleholder, instead of the supporting role. "The truth be known, she said, "It’s just great!"

We ran into the infamous ‘Skeeter’ from San Francisco who said she was in training with a Grand Master in San Jose. She said a Grand Master is one who is into a Spiritual SM focus. We’ll have to learn more about this and report later. Next we met Ms. San Diego LeatherWoman, Bobbie lei d’ courage and her partner Teresa. They told us LeatherFest IX is shaping up great for the weekend of April 18th, 19th & 20th. Get registered early and save $$$$. The Hotline # is 1-800-598-1859. We also met Cara, past producer of IMsL and current producer of IML in Chicago on Memorial Day Weekend. She says she’ll be working on Mr. Drummer this year. She was in town to choreograph the fantasy performed by contestant Lisa Weiszmiller who is now the first Fallen Angle, Ms. L.A. Leather titleholder. Congratulations Lisa. You’ve earned it. (Lisa is Managing Editor of 4-FRONT Magazine in L.A. and is responsible for it’s on-going leather column).

The emcee for the evening was Leather Daddy X, Irwin Kane of San Francisco - a favorite at Women’s Leather events. A most distinguished panel of judges sat at a table next to the fire pit beside the stage on the patio. Jill Carter, was head judge. With her was Viola Johnson, Sheree Rose, a founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Society of Janus and Leather and Lace and Susie Shepherd, tireless community slave from Portland, OR. The men on the panel were Brian Dawson, Mr. Drummer 1989 and leader of the Orange Coast Leather Assembly in Orange County. Shy Renfro, co-founder of International Ms. Leather and Dave Rhodes, publisher of The Leather Journal rounded out the officials.

There were four entries in the contest: Lenny Earl of North Hills, CA. Bear Liles of Long Beach, CA. Sacramento Dyke Daddy 1995 "T" from Santa Ana, CA. Lisa Weiszmiller of Los Angeles, CA who identifies herself as a butch bottom dyke dedicated to service and bringing joy to her Top’s life.

Contestants were evaluated as to how well the judges feel they posses Knowledge of the leather lifestyle. The ability to portray a positive image within and outside the leather community. The ability to assess worthwhile charities and effectively fundraise for them. The qualities that make one a leader, educator and role model of the leather lifestyle. Scoring categories were Personal Interview (15-20 minutes), 40 points. Fantasy (5 minutes), 20 points. Speech (90 seconds), 20 points. Attitude (throughout entire contest) 10 points and Image (throughout entire contest:, 10 points. Most contests are structured in a similar fashion so if you’re interested in going for a title, this is a good guideline for preparation.

Entertainment was provided by ‘Girl Jesus’, a local girl punk band, highlighted by a beautiful and sensual fire dance.. But of course the real fun was the fantasies performed by the contestants. Guy Baldwin, International Mister Leather ’89 made a special guest appearance. Vi Johnson spoke out for The Leather Archives in Chicago making note that the evening was itself history in the making.. The Archives seeks your memorabilia. Whatever you do, don’t throw it out. Contact them at 5007 N. Clark Street; Chicago, IL 60640. Telephone: 312/257-1570 Open Saturday 4pm to midnight.

Runner up winner was Bear Liles who is a Daddy training Tops and bottoms living by the motto, "Skill, integrity and responsibility." The evening concluded with hugs and kisses and several play parties around the City of Angels. Not only will Lisa represent L.A. women’s leather community, but she will go on to represent Los Angeles at IMsL July 18-20 in San Diego. Last but not at all least we would like to give a very special shout out to Joi Parker, flawless producer and Lee Lambert for her concept, faith and behind the scenes facilitation. You go Lee! We’d also like to acknowledge all the male support of this event. We saw the infamous ‘Piggy’ (who was ‘on-loan’ for the weekend to Daddy Kane) and International Mr. Drunner ’97, Kyle Brannon who is also the current Mr. L.A. Leather. Lisa and Kyle will make a wonderful first Mr. & Ms. L.A. Leather and I’m certain they’ll make our community shine bright.
