San Francisco's DORE "Up Your Alley" Street Fair
ROSS & ross Summer '98 Diary Selection

Mid-Summer ‘98 We drove into San Francisco today for the annual `DORE ALLEY FAIR’. It was amazing. Billed as a `trial run’ of The Folsom Street Fair by the producers, it is somewhat more of a fetish gathering for the locals. Just about anything you could possible imagine was visible during the afternoon. The Water Boys were out watering. The exibitionists were exibiting. And everyone was looking at everyone looking at everyone.

We saw all our friends we expected to meet except one or two (Y’all) and we met a few new ones as well. M.A.s.T. was very well represented and we saw more Masters and slaves than we can now count or recall. Diversity was the way and not the exception. This is a wonderful thing to see. This was sexual freedom at it’s finest - from totally naked to totally encased in plaster, everyone we saw was having a good time. There was even wrestling this year. There were non stop flogging, single tail and bondage demonstrations and dancing for those in need of working off some energy It was great 70’s disco so we danced for awhile. Others slipped away to a private club around the corner to enjoy newly found company. Some actually were doing it along the alley. Not much left to the imagination here. Less entertainment and more booths this time. Loads of new people. Fantasy IS reality at Dore Alley.

Fantastic weather.. about 75+ with a nice breeze. Just about as perfect as a Leather event can get. We took pictures and were photographed as well. boi rodtney was quite popular with his horse hair `tail’. Afterwards we stopped by ‘The Loading Dock’ beer bust and then walked the Castro until the evening fog rolled in (boi’s butt was getting a chill). We drove across the city past Buena Vista and Golden Gate Parks, through the Presidio and across the fog shrouded Golden Gate Bridge into the sunshine of Marin - and on to The Russian River in Sanoma County. It’s great to leave home and great to get back.
